Chalkboards, Chalkboards, Chalkboards

Oh my! Whatever is a salvage lovin', junkin' girl to do when her husband brings home a seemingly endless supply of really nice "scrap wood"?? Make fun and funky chalkboards of course!! We have an outdoor wood burning furnace that heats our home, so we are always being given scrap wood of all types. A few weeks ago my husband was offered barrel, after barrel, after barrel, of what some would call "scraps". A lot of the wood was really nice and already cut into perfect pieces for chalkboards. They needed nothing more than some sanding, some chalkboard paint and some funky stamps to awaken their "inner beauty". Here are a few pics. Look for these at my etsy store soon, and of course, they will be for sale at my little shop at Chartreuse and Co. Don't forget...the big one day sale on January 16th!!!!

Crowns and fleur de lis... ooh  la la. These sit on easels and are the perfect size for a counter or desk. I love the quote at the bottom right of the first one..."There can only be one Queen and I'm it".

These cuties have little twine hangers so they can be hung anywhere (door knobs, kitchen cabinet knobs, headboards, medicine cabinets etc.) for quick messages and gentle reminders.

They really can be hung anywhere! Border Collies really are smart! I need to stop leaving the chalk lying around! Who knew she could spell???

The creative women of Chartreuse and Co

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!! I know I did! I am heading to Chartreuse and Co tomorrow to start getting my booth ready for our BIG, one day, January 16th sale! Remember, everyone at Chartreuse will be working hard to find great vintage treasures for you. Winter is a great time to work on those indoor re-decorating projects. Start getting your thoughts and plans together to revamp that blah room that you never use, or the outdated room that reflects your style from five years ago. Decorating dilemas?? No problem! The savvy, stylish vendors at Chartreuse and Co can help! Check back on Monday for some fresh pics of new items at Chartreuse and Co !!

Vintage Style Holiday Decorating

OK...It was an icky, snowy weekend...but it finally gave me some much needed time to concentrate on my own decorating at home!! The weather outside was frightful but decorating inside was quite delightful!!

Pewter coffee pot, bells, mittens, shoe last, post cards and nut bowl...all vintage. Topped off with one of Molly's awesome french "Merry Christmas" signs and a picture of Danny's great grandmother. The nut bowl with nut crackers and picks, belonged to her.

The picture on the left is my grandparents wedding picture (ca 1920). The picture on the right is Danny's grandparents wedding picture (ca 1938). The vintage ornament in front of my grandparents belonged to them and the ornament in front of Danny's grandparents belonged to them. The little silver box belonged to my great grandmother. How special is that! We have other ornaments on the tree that belonged to our grandparents. We just received the ones that belonged to Danny's grandparents this year, when his grandmother passed away. We decided to start a new tradition...I hang my grandparents on the left side of the tree and he hangs his grandparents on the right.

My cool, earthy tree topper.

We have a beautiful fireplace and hearth made with stone, salvaged from a long abandoned local farmhouse. I love the way it looks but fire makes me really nervous! So I just decorate it. The pitchfork behind the boots was never actually used in a barn. It belonged to Danny's grandfather and it sat beside the fireplace in his grandparents basement. PopPop used it to roast hotdogs for his grandchildren in the basement fireplace when Danny was a little boy. Now it sits beside our fireplace.

Shopping at Chartreuse and Co

Leather chair at Chartreuse      Leather chair at it's new found home

I just received a picture from a very happy Chartreuse and Co shopper. She had been looking everywhere, for quite a long time, to find the perfect leather chair at an afordable price. Of course, she found it on her very first trip to Chartreuse this past weekend. She was even able to arrange for delivery through Chartreuse and Co. I love to see pictures of what people do with all of the cool stuff they find at Chartreuse. I invite anyone to send me pictures of their decorating projects that include awesome finds from Chartreuse. I would love to post them in my blog to share with everyone.

Check out the great new magnetic memo boards I made this week! They are made from vintage pie tins and trays. The pie tins are painted with chalkboard paint and the trays have way cool wallpaper applied to their centers. Each comes with it's own easel and 4 unique magnets. What a useful way to recycle!

Enamelware, tinware, metal and iron always disappear fast at the barn.

New items in my booth!! 1950's Santa face, fun metal red chair, a 1950's red scooter, kitschy 1960's light up candle and a very cool yellow metal tea cart.

Molly and Gail from Just B have the coolest things. A headboard turned into a chalkboard!!!  I LOVE IT!

Janes booth always looks so inviting!! This is one of the greatest beds I have ever seen! Such a warm and cozy space!!

What a good husband!

Well...the silver mink is gone...that one was my favorite! Oh well, it went to a good home. A really thoughtful husband purchased it, on the sly, for his wife for Christmas. She tried it on and wore it around the barn for a bit. He snuck back to me while she was off shopping and purchased it for her as a surprise. What a good husband!! She will be pleasantly surprised Christmas morning. I must say it looked great on her.

The talented ladies of Chartreuse and Co

The talented ladies of Chartreuse and Co.
This bunch can make a barn come ALIVE!!

Chartreuse and Co Christmas Open House

Wow!! It was a busy day at the barn (Chartreuse and Co)!! Customers loved the decor in the house and of course, loved being able to buy right off of the displays. After touring the house they came over to barn, full of decorating ideas to bring to fruition in their own homes. See the pics below of the beautiful decor that showcases the talents of the vendors at Chartreuse and Co. These are truly the most creative and talented women!! No wonder Chartreuse and Co is such a huge success!

Molly and Gail of Just B were the talented ladies who orchestrated the decor on and around the piano. Beautiful! The rocking horse was purchased within the first half hour and the horse heads went shortly thereafter.

Fran of and CoCo put her designing and decorating talents to work on the round entry table.

Kelly of Madison and Mabel put her totally awesome industrial look to work in the upstairs office/loft area.

Saule and Angelique of Silk & Burlap decorated the table and buffet in the dining room in their always elegant, vintage style.

Wendy and Lindsay of Beans and Buttons decorated the other buffet in the dining area. Very elegant and refined!!

Antique Furs...Vintage Style

Gorgeous!! Silver mink...also with a mongram inside and hand stitched lining. This one I'm going to have trouble letting go of...can I wear this to the auction or weekend tag sales or how about to the local salvage yard????

This one is ermine...so soft...monogrammed inside with hand stitched lining. Absolutley to die for!!

ok...this one is the piece de resistance...It's label says "silk seal" and it has a collar of either rabbit or mink...I think rabbit. Not sure if it is actual seal fur but it is soooo very soft and silky. I believe this one dates to the late 1800's or early 1900's. All four of these beauties will be offered for sale this weekend at our booth at Chartreuse and Co.
